Promoting reading in a screen-driven age may seem tough, but it’s doable!
Here are three tips that can help cultivate a reading habit in individuals of any age.
- 1. Lead by Example
One of the most effective ways to encourage reading is to be a reader yourself. It’s True! Especially with children. When they observe others around them reading and engaged in books, they are more likely to pick up a book for themselves.
- 2. Create a Reading Haven
This involves having a variety of reading materials easily accessible and a comfortable reading nook that invites one to curl up with a book. Libraries, bookstores, and even digital platforms offer a plethora of options catering to different interests and reading levels. I love that becoming a brand partner with PaperPie enabled me to FILL our home with books. Here is my son’s first BOOK NOOK! Now we have all the books in all the rooms.
Be sure to encourage exploring different genres and forms of literature to discover what truly captivates the reader’s interest. Reading should be a pleasure, not a chore, so facilitating an enjoyable reading experience is key.
- 3. Set and Celebrate Goals
Setting small, attainable reading goals can help build confidence, especially with reluctant readers! Whether it’s finishing a chapter a day, or reading a certain number of books a month, these goals can motivate individuals to stick with their reading habits. Celebrate these milestones.
By leading by example, creating a reading-friendly environment, and setting achievable goals, you can inspire a lifelong love for reading. Remember, the goal is to make reading an enjoyable and enriching part of life!
