According to google: A bucket list is a list of the experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime. A bucket list is an itemized list of goals people want to accomplish before they “kick the bucket” — or die.
Are you a bucket list family? Do you have a summer bucket list?
Generally, I’m not, but I figured I would give it a try this summer! I asked Colton the other day what we should put on our summer bucket list and his response was:
Swim and Play Hockey and I’m OK with that! I mean who wouldn’t love going from a 110 degree outside weather to a freezing cold ice rink. That sums up Colton perfectly-he’s such a unique child it’s like jumping from one extreme to the next… daily…everyday…over and over again.
So besides playing hockey-
Our favorite summertime activity is going to the pool at our local military base.
It’s so hot in Oklahoma, I’m not sure what we would do without the pool being so close. When I say it’s HOT-I mean it! The water in the pool doesn’t even feel cold! Doing this with Colton brings back so many memories from my childhood! When I was growing up my mom only worked part time so every Tuesday and Thursday, she would take us to the pool on the local military base.
Some of my best summer memories happened at the pool.
I loved to swim, I took lessons, did swim team, and later moved on to the best summer job ever-Lifeguard at the pool where I grew up learning to swim.
And now…I get such a kick out of grabbing a happy meal with my son and bringing him to the pool! He loves the water; he isn’t the best swimmer yet and that’s ok because his “lifeguard mama” doesn’t let him out of her sight! This year he should be able to stand in the shallow end which will be a welcomed sigh of relief because last year he couldn’t stand, and he hated that life jacket. Plus, he always sleeps so good after spending the afternoon hunting for his dive rings at the bottom of the pool and I do too! The sun and the heat and the water is an exhausting combo.
While my child isn’t a bucket list child at face value. I may try to sneak in some fun activities outside of hockey and swimming but as long as we are doing things that he loves I know it will be a great summer! I’d encourage you to make your own summer bucket list! The activities don’t have to be outrageous! Go for a walk! Pick flowers together! Being together is all that matters because those memories will last a lifetime.
