OR when your child unexpectedly gets sick the week before Christmas and it forces you to slow down! 😳
Sometimes “FORCED” rest is good. It can be a sign that you need to SLOW down!
But let’s put aside the “forced” rest in my house this week and all agree that we ALL have a very busy schedule and it’s SO hard to rest since we’re constantly dealing with new tasks and challenges. Over the last few days of “forced” rest I’ve learned a lot of tips and tricks to resting during the busy season! They are GOOD if I do say so myself. 😂 I plan to intentionally implement these ideas to real life aka life when we are all healthy and back to the every day grind.
Here are some tips and tricks everyone can use to start resting even when they have a lot of work to do:
Unplug from all tech
Shut down your computer, phone and just step away from social media for 5-10 minutes. Go outside, enjoy some fresh air and stop staring into any screen. Believe it or not, this can be very relaxing, and it can help you eliminate stress and anxiety. It will recharge you with energy, which is exactly what you need.
Perform some yoga poses
Yoga and meditation can be performed anywhere, even at the office. Just a few stretches and poses can help you feel refreshed, and you will have no problem unwinding. Whenever you feel stressed out or you can’t take time off, try out yoga, it does help a lot.
Listen to some music
Yes, music can also help you rest and step away from the day to day stress. A good idea here is to listen to a playlist featuring songs you like. It will help set a great, happy mood and it will also make it easier to rest and unwind. It releases endorphins, just like laughing. Yes, you should always consider laughing and listening to music, these are great and very relaxing activities.
Think about your hobbies
For a lot of people, thinking about their hobby is very relaxing. So even if you are very busy, it’s still a good idea to just stop work for a few minutes and think about your hobby, what things you need to focus on for your next hobby projects, etc. It will be a lot of fun, it’s already something that you love and that’s what matters the most!
Schedule a nap (or two)
Napping is very useful if you feel tired and can’t move on with your work. Even a 20-minute nap can do wonders when it comes to boosting your energy levels. It’s recommended to have a nap that’s either 20 minutes or 90 minutes. This is what our body needs for a complete sleep cycle. If you sleep for 50 minutes or 2 hours, you will not go through a complete sleep cycle, and you will wake up groggy.
Read a few pages from a book
This is one of my favorites!! (wink wink) Reading is a relaxing activity and it can be exactly what you need during a challenging, busy day. It allows you to calm down your mind, and in the end you will feel a lot better. All you have to do is to take a book with you and open it up when you feel a lot of pressure. Doing that might actually help you get past the pressure and revamp your focus!
As you can see, there are many different ways you can rest even if you have a busy schedule. I highly recommend avoiding any rush, and instead focus on yourself for a change. It all comes down to taking care of your body and mind, so even short breaks can help you feel refreshed and refill your energy levels.
Try out these ideas listed above, they are well worth your time!
