When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being just like Connie Chung. In fact, when people would ask me what I wanted to do when I grew up my answer was always the same: I wanted to be “just like Connie Chung.” I knew what I wanted to do but I didn’t know how to explain it and I don’t know why I wanted to deliver the news. Yet that dream continued through elementary school, middle school, high school and eventually I was accepted into one of the top Journalism colleges in the country, at the time.
I received a degree in Journalism with a focus in broadcasting and criminal justice.
That summer I accepted an internship at a Crime TV show and absolutely loved it! My focus began to shift from wanting to write and deliver the news to investigating and writing crime reports. After I graduated from college the show hired me full time as a production assistant and that only solidified my love for all things crime. I decided I wanted to investigate more than I wanted to write the news. So, I became a federal agent with the government. It was fantastic, I loved it for many years.
Then I fell in love with a military man, got pregnant with a miracle, moved across the country, took a year off from work to be with my baby, and found PaperPie. I seeked adventure.
I enjoyed things like skydiving and bungee jumping. No two days were ever the same, I always found myself in some precarious situations. I was told before Colton, that I should write a book. And I love how in this case my child, while he may look exactly like his father, is a mini me in personality and attitude. My friend Kerry explained it best in her recent comment on a Facebook post:
“I remember telling you when would share your crazy stories you needed to write a book. Your storytelling abilities and the fact that the situations you found yourself in were in face unbelievable!“
But God-He always has other, bigger and better plans for us! Colton is your mini me and makes your days interesting and fun and you never know what your day will bring and your #conversationswithcolton was brilliant and we all loved that you shared with us so we could see just a glimpse into your world! Especially after God’s healing power in his life!”
You see I loved my crazy life, and, in a sense, I still have all of that and more with my mini man by my side. Life is so funny, amazing, sad, crazy, and at times hard, but with faith and belief that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to-you can!
Tell me in the DMs on IG, what did you want to be growing up?
