Make-Ahead Mondays: DIY Crafts with Kids

I Love Arts And Crafts! My 8-year-old does NOT, but every now and then I get him to settle down, join in, and have a good time. Here is a DIY craft that my kiddo LOVED and I bet yours will too! It’s also perfect for kicking off 2024! I’m not a fan of “New Year’s Resolutions” but ONE thing we should all strive for in 2024 is to be HAPPIER! So all you need to do is “Find Your Happy!”. This activity is sure to bring some happiness into your home and will be perfect for celebrating the New Year even after New Year’s Day! Embrace the New Year with a burst of creativity and happiness by trying out this fantastic DIY craft – perfect for kids (and adults) who may not always love arts and crafts.

I got the idea for this craft from one of my PaperPie Books “Find Your Happy.” This is a beautiful picture book perfect for ages 4 and up! My 8-year-old still loves it.  In the book, a cheerful sloth shares the ways he feels better when he’s mad, sad, or scared.  This is a  joyful and imaginative book of feelings.  It’s bright, stylish, and uplifting.  I don’t know about you but poppers sure make my son happy and I must admit they bring me JOY too!

Inspired by the heartwarming book, ‘Find Your Happy’ from PaperPie, this activity promises to infuse your home with joy throughout the year.

Ok NOW let’s make some confetti poppers! I bet you already have most of the “tools” needed.

Crafting Your Own Confetti Poppers

Here’s a simple guide to making your own confetti poppers using everyday items you probably already have:

Materials Needed:

  • Balloons
  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Confetti (Pro Tip: Use a hole puncher and colored paper to create custom confetti)
  • Supplies for decorating

Instructions:

  1. Tie a knot in the balloon and trim off the tip. Stretch the balloon over the toilet paper tube, securing it with tape.
  2. Get creative! Decorate the tubes with paper, stickers, markers, crayons, glitter glue, washi tape, or any other craft supplies you have on hand.
  3. Fill the tube with confetti – either pre-made or crafted using colorful paper and a hole punch.

Now, you’re ready to launch happiness! Pull down on the balloon knot, release, and watch the confetti fly.

Celebrate the New Year with the pursuit of happiness – not through resolutions, but through joyful moments and creative expression. Make sure to check out ‘Find Your Happy’ from PaperPie, and let the crafting fun begin!
